The Beauty of Food: Sweet Auburn Curb Market (Atlanta, GA)

While this particular bit of rambling is about food, surprisingly (if you know me, you know I’m all about the devouring of food . . .) it has nothing to do with eating it. Actually, that’s not true. But, in a way, it is.

Forgive the arbitrary nature of my ramblings. What I’m really trying to say is while this does concern food, and it indeed is food—delicious, luscious, fresh food—that will ultimately be eaten, I’m going to speak on it before it gets to that crucial point.

Without further delay, this is about my recent visit to the Sweet Auburn Curb Market in Atlanta, Georgia. The Market is historically noted as the oldest public market in Atlanta. I had occasion to visit the market while attending the BlogHer Food ’11 Conference this past weekend.

This wasn’t my first visit to the Market. After moving to Atlanta in 1989, I had visited the Market a few times during my early years in the hot and humid south. To be honest, I really don’t recall much of the Market except that everywhere you looked there was fresh produce, fresh fruit, fresh seafood and fresh baked goods. Much like it was when I visited a few days ago.

So why all of the hoopla about visiting the Market?

For me, it was an opportunity to experience the beauty that was the bounty of the land and sea, and to preserve that beauty through photographs. I was a bit gung-ho after my first Visuals track session of the morning at the conference, Finding Your Visual Voice, a session on photography moderated by Aran Goyoaga, Stephanie Shih and Tami Hardeman.

While I found the afternoon session, Simple, Affordable Tools, Techniques and Accessories to Improve Your Food Photography, (held after my Market visit) to be more beneficial for my needs, the morning still proved helpful.

So off I went. The end result is the montage of photographs below.
